Maryland is the 7th state in the USA; it became a state on April 28, 1788.
It is named to honor the Queen consort Henrietta Maria, the wife of Britain's King Charles I.
Maryland’s geography ranges from sandy dunes in the east, to gently rolling hills of oak forest in the Piedmont Region, and pine groves in the mountains to the west.
