It was the first state to ratify the United States constitution.
Delaware is named to honor the early Virginia governor, Lord De La Warr.
Delaware's small size doesn't leave much room for major or varied land forms and most of the state lies on a low, flat coastal plain.
At its widest point, this state is 35 miles across.
