Colorado is the 38th state in the USA; it became a state on August 1, 1876
The word Colorado is Spanish for the "color red," and refers to the muddy Colorado River.
Located in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States, Colorado is not all mountainous. In fact, the eastern 2/5 of the state is quite flat.
Colorado is the highest state and has more mountains reaching 14,000 feet than any other state.
The mountain scenery is some of the most beautiful and dramatic in the United States.
